Naughton’s Nonsense

"May those who love us, love us.
For those who don't, may God turn their hearts.
And if he cannot turn their hearts.
May he turn their ankles
so we may know them by their limping."

-Irish Proverb (author unknown)

Trip to Misery

After returning from Colorado my dad and I jumped into his Nissan pickup with the pop-up camper attached and drove down to Table Rock Lake in Missouri. We were going to pick up my mom and brother who were attending Kamp Kanakuk. As we got further and further south it seemed like the truck’s air conditioning was giving out. It eventually got to the point that having the air on and the windows down still did not keep us cool. What was actually happening was that all the humidity from the flooding was pretty much rendering air conditioners useless. We arrived at the camp safely and pick up my mom and brother, and decided to head to Branson, MO., while camping at Table Rock. Well this did not last at all. First it was impossible to sleep in all that humidity and heat (sitting caused one to sweat gallons), and second Branson is just as expensive and gaudy as all the ads make it out to be. So we packed up and got out of Dodge, quickly. The trip home was uneventful, as was the rest of the summer. It was a great way to spend my last free summer.

I avoid Branson at all costs. Southern Missouri can be pretty, but, really, no comparison to Colorado!! It’s still a destination of choice for a lot of upper middle-aged people I know, but I don’t know why!

Oh, Please! Branson is wonderful. It only takes 30 minutes to drive 15 blocks…

I’ve never been to a show there, but I used to like shopping at the huge discount malls.

You are right. It is gaudy and expensive otherwise.
